The Shining

As a child this movie scared me so much that I spent two weeks sleeping in my parents room. All I had seen was a hallway and a pair of twins. Creepy, creepy twins.

Pick one of the following elements of horror and relate it to a specific scene or character that Kubrick (the director) created to send chills up the audience's spine.

* distortion of setting
* isolation and psychological distortion
* supernatural forces

For me, the hallway was the scariest part of the film. Kubrick distorted the setting by filming a seemingly unending labyrinth of hallways. It reminded me of my own days on the big wheel- though I rarely came across a tidal wave of blood. By using low angle shot (keeping us at Danny's eye-line) it increased the tension, and made the hotel super creepy. Almost as creepy as the twins.
